The Year 7 and 8 Music Tech classes have been exceptionally engaged and keen in class to learn new musical skills and knowledge. All classes have been learning open chords on the guitar to the kiwi songs, Six Months in a Leaky Boat, A Ha Ka Ma and Rua Kenana. Our programme includes keyboard skills, music theory, understanding rhythm, and describing the elements of music, OH! and don’t forget class singing in most lessons. Xylophone is featuring in class too this year with students learning a multi part arrangement of ‘Tiare Rarotonga’ in groups. Year 6 students from local schools enjoyed Open Day activities which included Batucada Brazilian drumming and keyboard skills.

Music groups this year are moving swiftly and a large number of students rehearse weekly for our three established groups Year 8 band KOHU, Karanga Manu our all comers singing group and Year 8 Harmony singers. New in Term 3 is our Tuesday morning Drumming Group at 8am open to all keen students.

Contact Miss Jhan Lindsay jhan@wis.school.nz if you have any music related questions.

Term 3 and 4 will see four music group trips to various competitions and festivals!
